RoHS / REACH Compliance - (reviewed Jan 2025)

We are aware of the current legal requirements and take compliance very seriously.

The existing Hexavalent Chromate/Chromium Trioxide EU Authorisation expired on 21st September 2024, as we have left the EU and its use is now banned within the UK.

EU REACH and UK REACH are entirely separate and as such uses of substances on the authorisation list need to be covered by a GB-held authorisation

It is well known that hexavalent chrome is harmful to the environment in extraction, use and disposal. It is also linked to certain cancers and liver and reproductive system conditions.

• Chromium Trioxide is found within the following treatments
• Chromic anodising and Chrome plating - Chromium Trioxide Alocrom 1200
• Full colour passivation (hexavalent) - please note the Zinc plating its self is fine)

Alternative treatments are available for:

• Full colour passivation - trivalent yellow
• Alocrom 1200 - Iridite NCP or Surtec 650 both a sliver/clear finish, no gold in colour alternative has been produced as yet

No alternative treatment for the Chromic Anodising or Chrome plating.

NOTE: As a downstream user of Chromium Trioxide through our Supplier authorisation, we are still able to carry out work for customers that supply the Aerospace and the Defence industry and its supply chain but this must be clearly stated on any purchase orders.
